Want A Porsche Wristwatch? Here’s A Watch Made Out Of The Luxury Car

It’s not very often that you find a wristwatch made out of a luxury car and it especially sounds unbelievable to hear that one made out of a Porsche, exists. The design of the Porsche 911 has virtually remained untouched since it was released in 1963 up until now.

A new campaign has just been initiated to help raise funds to produce a line of wristwatches that would mostly be made from recycled pieces of the legendary Porsche model. And a Danish watchmaking company, REC is responsible for this as they aim to incorporate not only the raw materials but also exclusive elements of the Porsche 911’s elegant design in their ground-breaking 901 collection.
The Danish company REC, got its name through its aim and visions which are to recover, recycle, and reclaim the parts they use to build their watches. As a result, each piece of their timepieces comes with its own unique story. This perhaps necessitated a poll on their website that pooled over 6000 votes which asked respondents which vehicle they should fashion into a watch collection.
The Porsche 911 earned 63% of the total votes, ahead of the Dodge Charger (21%) and the Volkswagen T2 (16%).
The Making
This poll made the Copenhagen watchmakers get inspiration from the legendary Porsche in designing almost every detail of the individual pieces that make up the 901 Collection.
The overall shape of the wristwatch is inspired by the smooth corners of the luxury car. It has lugs on either side of the 44mm oval-shaped four-piece stainless steel case, which serves as a mirror for the trademark rear engine air grille of the luxury sports car.
The Design

The design is as sleek as it gets. The indices are written in the German carmaker’s distinctive font.the watch has a glow-in-the-dark hands channel, which employs the orange gauge needles of early 911 models. The transparent caseback also looks like Otto Fuchs rims.
The profile of the case and crown is designed to echo the wide rear fenders of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
One thing that seems to make the design of the wristwatch special is that each piece comes with an identification number which is inspired by the license plate of vehicles.
It also has an individual, scannable ‘story card’ that tells you the history of the car that forms your wristwatch.
Available Colours
The Porsche wristwatch
It comes in three colour variations that features soft changeable double-calf leather straps with inner linings. The three colours available are green (901-01), brown (901-02), and black (901-03) — which are all taken from the most popular 911 models.
The name of the collection (901) is employed to pay tribute to the car line’s original internal project number.
Pricing
The pricing of this wristwatch makes it most suitable for upscale individuals and watch collectors. If you’re one of those people willing to churn out big bucks for a timepiece, you can back the concept and reserve your timepiece for as little as US$895 (313,250 Naira) and as much as US$2685 (939,750 Naira) for a triple pack.
The campaign for this timepiece has gathered momentum and all orders placed are expected to be fulfilled by September 2017.
Rock and drive your Porsche Wristwatch with panache!
